The organization and activities of the Archive are based on the principles of modern archivistics, century-old experience and current laws.

 
 

Organization

The activities of the Archives are organized into four departments:

  1. The Department of the Old Period archive materials
  2. The Department of the New Period archive materials
  3. The Department of the Access to the archive materials
  4. and its Technical protection
  5. The Administrative department
 
 

ARCHIVE SPECIALISTS

  The staff consists of 80 employees. Most of them carry on the record and protect current records and archive materials, take them over, sort them out and treat them. They also present archive materials.

The staff is obliged to get qualifications and specialisations verified by the expert examination. However, there is also the opportunity for the archive specialists to acquire the title. There are 4 counsellors, 7 senior archivists, 16 archivists, 5 senior assistant archivists, 6 first category assistant archivists and 13 assistant archivists.
 
 

THE TRAINING COURSE

  Archive is obliged to provide archive specialists required in Archives of Serbia as well as in the others belonging to archival network.

A training course organized every year in the Archives of Serbia represents the basic system of professional training of the archive staff. Students enrolled in this course take exams valuated as governmental examination.

Since 1957 about 700 archivists and assistant archivists have completed course education in various forms.

INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION

From the very beginning Archives of Serbia has established good connections with other archives in the world which resulted in fruitful co-operation. It mostly includes investigations of archive materials kept in the foreign archives, periodic exchange of specialists, organizing joint or mutual exhibits and international meetings concerning issues transcending local importance and borders...

 
   

ARCHIVAL MEETINGS

These meetings are a usual form of contacts among the archivists enabling exchange of experiences and pieces of information. Such meetings are organized around a common subject to be discussed of; reports and discussions are published in professional journal Archival review...

 
       
 

PRIZES AND RECOGNITIONS


Decoration of Merits
for People
  For results achieved in archivstics and for protection of cultural properties Archives of Serbia received several most valuable prizes and recognitions:

In 1975, during celebration of 75th anniversary Archives of Serbia was granted the Decoration of Merits for People with a Gold Star by the President of the Republic of Yugoslavia.

In 1990, it was awarded the Golden link by the Association for culture and education of Belgrade.

In 1998, it was given Golden archive by the newly founded foundation of Aleksandar Arnautovic.

In 1999, it was awarded Vuk Karadzic's prize by the Association for culture and education of the Republic of Serbia. for exceptional contribution to culture in the Republic of Serbia as well as to the Serbian cultural sphere.
